The Challenging Effects of Totalitarianism

In the book 1984, George Orwell utilizes diction and figurative dialect to show how a totalitarian government dehumanizes the lives of their people and obliterate their thought. In the beginning of the new, Winston will help the reader visualize an important Newspeak worker at the Fiction Office with " two blank discs rather than eyes” (53). The usage of " two write off discs” should be to describe the individual's eyes being a bleak picture of thoughtlessness. Instead of simply allowing for the reader to visualize the actual attributes of the individual's eyes, Orwell uses " two empty discs” to demonstrate that the person accepts the dictatorship. This can be enforced by government, using all requests the government gives them. The process of having no thought suggests to the reader for the concept of residing in a contemporary society where federal government rules all, forces it is citizen to simply accept the regulations that go along with it. Second, the Winston observes the " quackquack-quacking” noise the fact that man is blabbering about (53). The imitation of any duck helps the reader think that that the person is uttering nonsense. You is educated of the trash talk through noises and mimicry. In accordance to duckspeak, the man can be speaking without thinking; therefore , anyone says the ideals of the federal government, who may punish any citizen who will be disloyal to them. Finally, Winston details the man since speaking through his " larynx” not his " brain” (54). The usage of " larynx” is always to show the fact that man is definitely not as to what he is talking about. The government watches what people are allowed to say, so they cannot get their own judgment. Speaking with out thought demonstrates the government controls every thought process the individuals can and cannot include. George Orwell illustrates how a totalitarian plan can deprive people of humanity and obliterate thought.
