Competition Relations in the South

Ethnicity conflict in the American To the south has been a hypersensitive subject for several years. Flannery O'Connor's " Exactly what Rises Need to Converge” has its own symbolic advantages of these ethnicity conflicts. The setting is principally on a shifting bus, in the 1960's American South. The various characters interact with one another, exposing the tension, turmoil and racial relations which might be happening throughout the era this kind of story takes place. Some heroes feel to become alarmed for modify, while others think change is important for the equality of various races. Meaning is used effectively in O'Connor's " Anything that Rises Must Converge” through characters, placing, and characterization to highlight the broader conflict of race relations. The stories main character can be described as young, white man known as Julian, in whose relationship with his mother represents the race conflict on a smaller level. Julian thinks that the community has changed which is completely different than it used to be. This individual thinks there should be a mutual agreement among races and everyone should get along and be treated equally. His mother, alternatively, still sees a world in which white folks are the prominent race, as well as the Negroes are thought lower class individuals that probably should not get to riding on the same tour bus. Julian's mother makes a touch upon how they are amongst themselves today, talking about the fact that you have no Negroes on the tour bus. O'Connor says the reactions from Julian and the female across the aisle: Julian cringes, and the woman with the white and red canvas flip flops replies, " For a change, My spouse and i came on the other day and so they were thicker as fleas, up front and all through” (443).
